ASEAN Member States have demonstrated strong commitment to addressing malnutrition in all its forms, including through the ASEAN Leaders Declaration on Ending All Forms of Malnutrition (ALD – EAFM) and the ASEAN Strategic Framework and Action Plan on Nutrition (ASF&APN) 2018–2030. These frameworks guide multisectoral and multi-stakeholder actions across health, food and agriculture, education, and social welfare.
With support from the Government of Australia through the Australia for ASEAN Futures (Aus4ASEAN Futures) Program, the ASEAN Secretariat is implementing the ASEAN-Australia Initiative to End Malnutrition, Achieving Global Targets across ASEAN. To ensure effective implementation and coordination of this initiative, the ASEAN Secretariat is inviting ASEAN Nationals to apply for the position of Programme Coordinator for Nutrition.
The Programme Coordinator will provide overall technical management and coordination of the Initiative, the ASF&APN 2018-2030 (which operationalises the ALD-EAFM), and nutrition-related initiatives under the ASEAN Health Cluster 1 on Promoting Healthy Lifestyles.
Remuneration and Benefits:
An attractive lump-sum remuneration at the Senior Officer level will be offered commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Subject to good performance during the probation, the candidate will be offered up to two-year contract, inclusive of six-month probationary period.

Assigned within the Health Division of the ASEAN Secretariat, and reporting to the Head of Health Division, the Programme Coordinator is expected to deliver the following:
1. Programme Management
- Manage the delivery of activities under the initiative, ensuring compliance with ASEAN Secretariat and Australia for ASEAN Futures Program requirements, and identify opportunities for coordination and synergies with other programmes within the ASEAN Health Sector, with other relevant ASEAN sector and partners;
2. Technical Support
- Provide technical expertise to the nutrition focus areas of the ASEAN Health Sector's post 2025 heatlh development agenda and work programmes:
- Assist Lead Countries, ASEAN Member States and external partners in the implementation of nutrition-related activities under this initiative, the ASF&APN 2018-2030, and the Promotion of Good Nutrition and Healthy Diet as a health priority under ASEAN Health Cluster 1 on Promoting Healthy Lifestyles;.
- Coordinate with and support relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies in designing and implementing nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific initiatives that contribute to the strategic objectives of the ASF&APN and the ALD on EAFM.
- Support the design and conduct of the mid-term review of the ALD - EAFM through the Lead Country (Philippines) and consultant, as well as the high-level multisectoral meeting to present and validate key findings and recommendations, which will guide priority regional initiatives for 2026-2030.
3. Coordination and Liaison
- Assist Lead Countries and partners in planning, organizing, reviewing and following up on regional meetings, workshops, trainings, or for a relevant for the implementation of nutrition initiatives of the ASEAN Health Sector and other sectors.
- Provide substantive technical advice to ASEAN Secretariat on ASEAN nutrition project activities.
- Liaise with Dialogue and Development Partners and with other ASEAN Secretariat divisions in the implementation of nutrition activities.
- Draft report of meetings under the ASEAN Health Cluster 1 work programme as well as the ASF&APN 2018-2030.
- Represent ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Secretariat in relevant meetings or events.
- Support and coordinate with Lead Countries and partners, as appropriate, in the preparation and submission of end-of-project reports.

- Master’s Degree or equivalent in a discipline relevant to the Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or a related field with a minimum three (3) years high-level experience in nutrition programme management in ASEAN or regional contexts.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant specialist discipline(s) with five (5) years qualifying work experience in a leadership role in lieu of the Master’s degree, may also be considered;
- Familiarity with ASEAN processes, structures, and sectoral bodies;
- Strong analytical, coordination, and organisational skills;
- Excellent command of English, with proven ability to prepare reports and technical papers;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with the public and other stakeholders, including experience in a cross-cultural environment and international settings.
- In-depth understanding of international and regional issues, and knowledge of and commitment to ASEAN ideals.
- Proven skills in problem solving in a complex organisational environment and in work planning.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to complete work in a timely manner.
- Strong report writing, coordination and inter-personal skills.
- Proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
