The ASEAN Secretariat was established in 1976 by the Foreign Minister of ASEAN with basic functions of providing greater efficiency in the coordination of ASEAN organs and for more effective implementation of ASEAN projects and activities. It is also envisioned to be the nerve centre of a strong and confident ASEAN Community that is globally respected for acting in full compliance with its Charter and in the best interest of its people.
In alignment with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and Strategic Plans of the three ASEAN pillars of Political-Security Community, Economic Community and Socio-Cultural Community, and ASEAN Connectivity, and supported by the Department of Community and Corporate Affairs, the ASEAN Secretariat is inviting Indonesian citizens or ASEAN Nationals who are already residing and eligible to work in Indonesia to apply for the position of Officer for International Economic & Trade Law Division, Community & Corporate Affairs Department (CCAD).
Remuneration and Benefits:
Successful candidate will be offered a basic salary of IDR 16,835,950 and attractive remuneration package including monthly transportation allowance, outpatient medical reimbursement, hospitalisation & life insurance, annual bonus of a month’s basic salary, and gratuity. Subject to good performance during the probation, the candidate will be offered a fixed term contract of three (3) years, inclusive of the 6-month probationary period.

Reporting to the Assistant Director/Head and Senior Officer of International Economic & Trade Law Division, the Officer shall be responsible to:
1. Provide technical and administrative support for official meetings, including facilitating the organisation of various legal related ASEAN meetings and undertaking the necessary follow-up:
- Provide the relevant documents for the meetings.
- Assist in the rapporteuring works at the meetings.
- Monitor the follow-up actions and decisions.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
2. Assist in providing legal advice on all ASEAN economic agreements:
- Review of legal documents, instruments, or other materials.
- Assist in the preparation of legal opinion on a wide range of public and private international law issues.
3. Assist in monitoring, implementing, and reviewing existing ASEAN Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with its Partners:
- Compile, compare, and review ASEAN FTAs to ensure effective implementation of the existing FTAs.
- Assist in providing technical support to AMS in reviewing and upgrading existing FTAs.
- Assist in providing technical support and secretariat assistance on additional instruments to implement the FTAs.
- Provide technical and administrative support in the FTA negotiation process in matters relating to legal and institutional issues.
4. Assist in coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes and/or projects:
- Assist in preparing drafts or inputs of project proposals.
- Conduct pre-appraisal activity.
- Assist in coordinating with relevant desk officers, divisions, and dialogue partners or external parties to ensure effective implementation of the programme or projects.
- Prepare reports on status of programme or projects.
5. Assist in monitoring compliance to ASEAN economic related agreements and its related legal instruments:
- Review, compile, and update the list of ASEAN economic related agreements.
- Review and assess issues in relation to ratification, entry into force, and validity of ASEAN economic related agreements.
- Conduct initial assessments of the status of various ASEAN economic related agreements and their implementation.
6. Assist in coordinating and facilitating the effective operationalisation of ASEAN Dispute Settlement Mechanisms:
- Assist in ensuring effective implementation of the Protocol on EDSM.
- Provide technical and administrative support during the Meeting of the Task Force on ASEAN Task Force on Dispute Settlement Mechanism (TF-EDSM).
- Provide necessary secretariat support to the TF-EDSM.
- Assist in monitoring the implementation of the Protocol on EDSM.
- Assist in providing technical support and assistance on any other dispute settlement mechanisms in ASEAN.
7. Other tasks and duties assigned by the Head of Division.

- Advance degree in International Economic and Trade Law or an appropriate related field; or Bachelor’s degree in Law with a minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience, preferably in the field of International Economic and Trade Law (economic and trade)
- Technical skills and knowledge in areas of responsibility
- Demonstrated knowledge and policy, research, and technical skills in the relevant area and ability to acquire them
- Proven skills in problem solving in a complex organisational environment and in work planning
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, monitor and review policy and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organise tasks and work flows, with proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with stakeholders
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative work practices
- Sound command of English, written and spoken.
